Jade Ngoc Quang Huynh was born in 1957 in South Vietnam. Escaping Vietnam in 1977, first to Thailand and then to the United States, Huynh spent six years working at places such as fast-food restaurants and factories. He went on to eventually receive a Master of Fine Arts degree from Brown University.
