Instructor Comments - Ten Seconds
"My students responded
beautifully to Ten Seconds by Louis Edwards. They didn't
even know they could
be so delighted and since they love to use the word ‘flow’ as a measure of
goodness in a book, Louis Edwards's
prose ‘really flows!’ they would say, and be amazed at how fluid the writing
was and how they were not confused but rather plucked up and swept along,
rescued -- rescued from thinking short and choppy and straightforward was the
style to emulate. The Edwards really freed many of them to write differently,
to think of time differently, to even understand something about time they
hadn't before: What we project into the future is as determining of the present
as our being in the present is. In
short, it was a success, and I thank you for its presence in the world. -- Michelle Latiolais, University of California,
Irvine
