Job opening: Development Director
Graywolf Press seeks a highly motivated Development Director to create and implement the development initiatives of this literary publisher located in the Twin Cities.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as primary staff contact, in conjunction with our Publisher, for the board of directors.
• Plan and coordinate development strategies and initiatives with Publisher and board development committee, including annual individual campaign, special initiatives, and cultivation events.
• In conjunction with Graywolf’s Publisher and its Managing Director, play a broad managerial role in the smooth running of the Press as a whole.
• Write grant proposals and reports; maintain grant calendar; ensure grant compliance.
• Acknowledge and track all contributions and pledges; reconcile records with accountant.
• Prepare fundraising reports for board and development committee meetings.
• Manage donor/governance prospect meetings.
• Work with Publisher to build and sustain Graywolf’s growing circle of national advisors, including planning national events.
• Serve as Graywolf’s representative at meetings in the field, as necessary.
• Help maintain existing foundation and corporate relationships, as well as research and create new connections.
• Follow trends in philanthropy and communicate findings to board and staff.
• Maintain all development records.
• Help supervise administrative assistant.
Qualifications:
This position will suit a candidate who is resourceful, creative, and interested in a job with significant potential for professional growth.
• Graduate or undergraduate degree.
• Five or more years of development experience.
• Strong organizational, writing, communication, and financial skills.
• Experience with Mac OS, Microsoft Office, DonorPro, and FileMaker Pro.
• Ability to work cooperatively in our nine-person office.
• Interest in contemporary literature.
